soo agree w/ u milk, i could’ve not said it better myself. =(

i must say the early to mid nineties was sort of the heartbreak of periods really. A time of musical growth, integrity, artistry, and open-mindedness. Mostly dead by 1998 to be replaced by the likes of Korn, Limp Bisquit, and Kid Rock. If that ain’t a tragedy, what is?!?!

    they’re back together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Defining is the incorrect term to use. You used the right term in your comment, popularize. Underoath did not define the post-hardcore/screamo sound, they popularized it. Just like Nirvana didn’t define the grunge scene, they popularized it. I am not even going to say anything negative about popularizing a genre, because that’s a futile argument, but defining a genre means you are on the forefront of the scene pioneering the sound. Which neither band did.

  • kaahpires says:

    best song ever.

  • U2rock55 says:

Underoath aren’t the defining band of screamo, screamo was around in the early nineties with underground Emocore/Hardcore Punk(not Mainstream metalcore) bands like Angels Hair and Indian Summer.
And they didn’t copy each other, they were very experimental and Unique

  • mrballistix says:

    Ever heard of Public Enemy?

  • Grunge00125 says:

nah, i know alot of rap music isnt like that, but like 90% of mainstream rap is, and most underground rappers either dont have an actual record deal, or their albums are hard as shit to find. same with older rapers, its much easier to find a lil wayne cd than like sugarhill gang. i listen to tupac and eminem, thats about the only rap i like, and some T.I. anyways yeah sonic youth are my idols.

  • mrballistix says:

    1. Of course I’v heard of Sonic Youth.
    2. Condemning all rap music because you think they’re all about “drgs and gands” is very close minded.

  • Grunge00125 says:

well i mean pop punk is okay, but most pop punk bands are way too emo. and yeah, even rap sucks cuz i ahte rap about like drgs and gands and shit, and the west coast has nerdcore and joke rap and rapping about like real life problems and shit. im tryin to start a band influenced by sonic youth, if u have ever heard them, although im not very good with effects so i still need to mess around with mine :D

  • mrballistix says:

Yeah you should try getting into some rap if you live on the east coast cause they’re is nothing else.

  • Grunge00125 says:

they r kind of defining in the sense that every screamo band tries to copy them. there is no generation defining band, but screamo itself is currently defining the east coast(thats all we have here is screamo and pop punk.) idk maybe its different for middle america and the west coast, but east coast is all about screamo and pop punk. it kinda sucks.

  • mrballistix says:

No, I used to own a Underoath album and while I do feel they rise above the general dearth of Screamo music they are not a generation or genre defining band (I.E. Nirvana)

  • Grunge00125 says:

actually screamo does have a defining band: underoath. they’ve been around since the 90s and they were originally a metal band, and then people started copying their style and boom screamo was made. but i mean other than underoath(who, at times, can be really good musicians), they are NO good screamo bands. and i can already see screamo whithering away, its on mtv considerably less this year than the past few years and alot of indie/new wave stuff is comin out so hopefully its done.

  • mrballistix says:

You have to keep in mind that screamo is obviously a fad. How do I know this? There is no defining screamo band or album, no band or album that rises above the general crap of screamo. Grunge produced some incredible bands and even that faded out so how long can screamo last?

  • Grunge00125 says:

late 80s to early 90s are, in my opinion, the best time for mtv and music in general. i mean cmon, grunge, alternative rock, REAL emo music, it couldnt get much better(throw in some good metal that aint metallica or megadeth and it’d be perfect.) mtv is shit now, and music is generally quite crappy. idk, hopefully this whole screamo/hardcore bullshit will end soon.

  • rafaelkyuss says:

    I agree to you.

  • pigeonkill says:

yeah. I look back and it seems unreal that f-ing mtv used to be a medium that introduced me to some bands I like up to this day. what’s on air now, love of rock?

  • ganstamannirvana93 says:

I think the pre-chorus/chorus is the best part of the song.

  • insipidtomato says:

it was the best thing about mtv, this and sifl and olly, which no one remembers either
